About the AGRC
The Academic Geriatric Resource Center serves as the central body for development and coordination of geriatric educational activities within UCSD Health Sciences, the School of Medicine and the Skaggs School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences. It provides support to guide institutional and faculty interests in geriatric education and ensures that these efforts find their way into the mainstream of medical and pharmacy education at UCSD.
The AGRC serves medical and pharmacy students, residents, fellows, faculty, healthcare professionals, and the general public through its own activities as well as by supporting other programs with similar objectives, funding related activities, and working collaboratively with other campus programs in aging.
The AGRC at UCSD is overseen by the AGRC Advisory Committee, a group of prominent faculty and community professionals with a particular interest in the field of geriatrics.
The Goals of the UCSD AGRC are:
- To assure that all undergraduate medical students and residents in primary care and psychiatry achieve the geriatric competencies specified by the American Geriatrics Society (AGS), as appropriate to specialty.
- To assure that all undergraduate pharmacy students and pharmacy residents achieve the geriatric competencies specified by the American Society of Consultant Pharmacists (ASCP).
- To empower seniors to better maintain their health and better manage the social and health issues arising with aging.
- To increase the number of trainees at all levels choosing careers in geriatrics.
