Student Government : A Partnership in Development

The Student Government at the UCSD School of Medicine was established in the Spring of 2000 to improve the level of communication, representation, and involvement of medical students at all levels of the UCSD School of Medicine.

The Office of Student Affairs and the current elected student officers strongly encourage students to get involved in the Student Government.  The Student Government at UCSD School of Medicine actually touches students’ lives in many different ways.  These include social events such as orientation social activities, spring formal, and a talent show.  The Student Government also assists with admissions/recruiting, provides curricular feedback, and serves in a liaison capacity to students about exams, policies, and organization meetings.

With over 35 elected and appointed positions in each medical school class, Student Representatives serve as liaisons to professional organizations, course representatives, elected  officials and voting members of Faculty Committees. Student input and involvement is sought after at every level and student participation is a critical element in UCSD's medical school direction and focus. All students are encouraged to get involved to make our environment and community supportive.
