The 2009 Lasker Awards, the most respected science prizes in the U.S., will be awarded to: Brian Druker of the Oregon Health & Science University; Nicholas B. Lydon, formerly of Novartis AG; and Charles L. Sawyers of the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, for their research on Gleevec, a drug that transformed chronic myelogenous leukemia from a fatal cancer into a manageable chronic condition.
