Teacher Training

One of the components included in COPC's S.E.P is the Teacher Training classes.  Science teachers are introduced and trained in new methods of teaching and integration of new science curriculum into their own classrooms during the intersessions, alongside their students.  The program focuses on hands-on models for strengthening student science and math process and communications skills.

The goals of the training are:
  • to improve and modify existing curricula,
  • assist with the student development of science fair projects,
  • recruit students and teachers into UCSD COPC science enrichment program.
Teachers have an opportunity to enhance their technical skills, become familiar with new equipment, and receive year-long assistance with implementing the program's teaching strategies into their classrooms.  Science education is upgraded through teacher training, the incorporation of COPC S.E.P. lesson plans and laboratory exercises into the curriculum, and the use of modern science equipment in the classroom.  Teachers are paid stipends for each training session they attend.  In turn, they aid the S.E.P. director and students in the labs once they have been trained in that specific area.
