What's New?

Audio Podcasting

Audio Podcasting

Beginning in Winter 2007, the feasibility of audio podcasting was explored in several core courses. Using faculty willing to participate in the experiment and technologies set up by EdCom, students from the Class of 2010 recorded >100 hours of content. These recordings were then uploaded to a secure media server for sharing with classmates. Based on the success of this endeavor, the 2010 “pod squad” has moved forward into the 2nd year curriculum.  A new "pod squad" from the Class of 2011 was recruited during InfoQuest 2007 and has continued recording the 1st year curriculum.

MedPics

MedPics sample screen

We are proud to announce that MedPics - a web-based image delivery system collaboratively developed at UCSD by the School of Medicine’s Office of Education Computing and the Histology and Human Disease course faculty - was peer reviewed in 2007 and published in AAMC's MedEdPORTAL. MedPics is a self-paced learning environment that uses on-screen guidance to assist students in key feature identification and image interpretation. The supporting text provides core and clinically relevant information about each image and a learning framework for organizing the subject matter.

Both Apple and PC computers are acceptable. In the Medical Student Computer Requirements section of this site, we provide information that will help you determine whether your current computer will be sufficient or whether you should purchase a new one.

ePortfolio for Clinical Clerkships

ePortfolios

The ePortfolio is an electronic system for patient and procedure tracking in the clinical setting. Developed at UCSD by EdCom and the Medicine 401 Clerkship faculty, the idea has quickly spread to other Clerkships.  Primary Care, Pediatrics, ReproMed and Neurology now have their own customized versions being used by students. The final two clerkships, Psychiatry and Surgery, are busy getting the ePortfolio customized to meet their Clerkships' needs. and will begin use in the Summer Quarter.
