Configuring Your Email Client Program

Eudora or Microsoft Outlook

To configure your email client application, refer to the help sheet appropriate for your email program and computer platform. (Laptop Users - see below)

You will be asked to enter your name, email address, username, password & mail servers (see chart below).

¹ = Some Non-UCSD ISP's allow the use of other Outgoing Mail Servers (e.g., smtp.ucsd.edu) for their customers.   Check with your ISP to verify that they permit this practice, and then register for Off-Campus SMTP Access through Academic Computing Services at http://popmail.ucsd.edu/external.html .   Once registered, you can use "smtp.ucsd.edu" as your outgoing server. NOTE: you will need to know your network username and password to register on this site (they should be the same as your MedEd username and password).


Note for Laptop Users:   If you access your email from home and your laptop is configured for a Non-UCSD ISP, you will not be able to use these settings for mail while on campus.

You have two choices:

1. You can use your email client (e.g., Eudora, Outlook) only when at home AND use MedEd WebMail for checking mail while on campus.
2. You can create TWO "personalities" in your email client -- ONE for use at home with the Non-UCSD ISP's Outgoing Mail Server, and ONE for use at campus with the On-Campus Outgoing Mail Server (e.g., smtp.ucsd.edu).
