Instructions for Configuring Microsoft Entourage 2008 (Web Services Edition)

Note: These instructions only apply for the Office 2008 Professional Edition. Please make sure you have the Web Services Edition, if not please download the update here .



Open Microsoft Entourage 2008

  1. Launch Entourage by selecting the purple Entourage icon from your dock.
  2. Or by going into the Applications folder, then the Office 2008 folder, and selecting the Entourage icon.

Set up a Mail Account

  1. Once the Entourage Setup Assistant appears, cancel by clicking on the Red Circle.
  2. Use these instructions to enter the Exchange server settings manually.


  3. You will be asked to verify that you want to close out of the Assistant. Click on the Close button.


  4. You will be asked to verify that you want Entourage to be your default e-mail program. Click on the Make Default button.



 5.  From the Toolbar, click on Entourage and select Account Settings...


 6. This will open the an Accounts window. Click on the New button and select the Exchange...


7.  When Account Setup Assistant window reappears;

  • Enter your @ UCSD Email Address in the field provided.
  • Check the box beside My account is on an Exchange server.
  • Click on the Configure Account Manually button to continue.


8.  In following window complete the  information for the Exchange Incoming Mail Server, as described below:

  • Account name: MedEd Exchange Account.
  • In the Personal information section:
    • Name: Your first name and last name.
    • Email:  Your @ UCSD email address.
  • In the Authentication section, select the Use my account information
    • Account ID: Your UCSD Username (UCSD email name, the prefix of your @ucsd.edu email - truncated to eight charaters).
    • Domain: AD.UCSD.EDU (case senstive).
    • Password: Your Password [SEE NOTE BELOW]
    • Check the box: Save password in my Mac OS keychain. [SEE NOTE BELOW]
    NOTE: Entering your password here and saving it to your keychain may pose a security risk.  If your laptop is lost or unattended, your mail can be accessed without your having to login.  Using the Keychain option does provide a convenience - as you will not be prompted for your mail credentials.  But do so at your own risk.
  • In the Server information section:
    • Exchange server: meded-stuexchange.ucsd.edu.
    • Check the box beside This DAV service requires a secure connection (SSL).



9.  Still within the Edit Account window, click on the Advanced tab, and complete the fields as indicated below:

  • In the Public Folder Settings section:
    • Public folders server: meded-stuexchan.AD.UCSD.EDU (case sensitive).
    • Check the box: This DAV service requires a secure connection (SSL).
  • In the Directory Settings section
    • LDAP server:  ldap.ad.ucsd.edu.
    • Check the box beside This server requires me to log on.
    • Search base: dc=ucsd,dc=edu.
  • Click OK to continue.

10. Once your account has been verified, Entourage will add the MedEd Exchange account to the account view on the left hand side of your Entourage Inbox. Click on the Send/Receive button to begin downloading your email.


10.) Congratulations, you have now configured your Entourage 2008 for the MedEd Student Exchange server.
