MedEd Student Exchange: Instructions for Configuring Mac Mail (Exchange)
This document explains how to set up Mac Mail in OSX 10.5 or later for MedEd Student Exchange.Please note that Mac Mail does not support the full suite of services that Exchange provides such as Task Lists, Notes, etc. Only Microsoft Outlook and Entourage applications support these features.
You are able to use iCal to syncthe Exchange calendar.
I. Opening Mac Mail
1.) Launch Mac Mail by selecting the Mail icon from your dock or by going into the Applications folder and selecting the Mail icon.
II. Setting up a Mail Account
1.) The Welcome to Mail window will open and help you get started. If not, go to File>Add Account. Enter your Full Name, @ UCSD Email Address, and UCSD Network Password in the appropriate fields. Once completed, click Continue.

2.) The following window will ask for the Exchange Incoming Mail Server.
- In the Account Type: drop down menu, select Exchange 2007.
- In the Description: field, type MedEd Exchange.
- In the Incoming Mail Server: field, type meded-stuexchan.AD.UCSD.EDU (case sensitive).
- In the User Name: field, type your Username (your UCSD email name, the prefix of your @ucsd.edu email - truncated to eight charaters).
- In the Password: field, type your Password.
- Check Address Book contacts & iCal calendars if you wish to sync these.
- Click Continue.

3.) You may come across a dialog box mentioning Mail can't verify the identity of "meded-stuexchan.AD.UCSD.EDU" before being able to download or sent mail. The certificate is safe to trust, MacMail is simply unable to properly interpret our security certificate. Please follow the steps below to "Always Trust" the certificate.
a) When the Verify Certificate dialogue box appears, click on the Show Certificate button.

b) The dialogue box should expand, check the box beside Always Trust "*.ucsd.edu" when connecting to "meded-stuexchan.AD.UCSD.EDU". Click the Connect button to finish.

4.) An Account Summary window will appear for review. If you need to make any changes to the settings, click on the Go Back button. Make sure to check the box beside Take account online. After reviewing, click on the Create button to establish your account. Depending on your internet connection speed, this process could take a few minutes to complete while a connection with the servers is established and your account is verified.

5.) Once your account has been verified, the Mac Mail Inbox window for your MedEd Student Exchange account will appear. Click on the Get Mail button to begin downloading your email.

6.) Congratulations, you have now configured your Mac Mail for the MedEd Student Exchange server.
