Novell NetStorage

The less preferred (but sometimes more convenient) method to access your "I: drive" from off-campus is to use Novell NetStorage through a web browser.

Novell NetStorage for Students is a web-based interface for accessing network drives and files that has some limitations and tends to be less productive than the client method.

Advantages:

  • Access to Novell files using web browser and internet connection.
  • Can be used on computers that do not have the Novell Client package installed.
  • Works with MAC computers and PCs.
  • Operation or navigation of the web-based utility is quite easy.
  • And it's free!

Disadvantages:

  • You may have to open multiple browser windows.
  • You may have to download the file to a local computer if there aren't any browser plug-ins available for viewing/editing a particular file format.
  • Uploading files to the server tends to be a bit quirky.

Novell NetStorage is not intended to be the primary method of connectivity to the MedEd Novell server, but it can be very useful when you are away from your home computer or if you are a MAC user who prefers not to purchase the more robust client package from Prosoft Engineering External Site / New Window.
