1. Start the Firefox Web browser.
   • Windows: Open the Tools menu and select Options.
   • Macintosh: Open the Firefox menu and select Preferences.
2. Click on the General icon on the left side of the window.

3. Click the Connection Settings button.

4. Click on the Manual proxy configuration radio dial button.

5. In the text field, type the proxy address and port:

webproxy.ucsd.edu

Port: 3128

6. In No Proxy for: file, add (seperated by commas):

meded.ucsd.edu

meded-portal.ucsd.edu

meded-mail.ucsd.edu

meded-edcom.ucsd.edu

7. Click the OK button and quit Firefox.

8. When you restart Firefox and attempt to load a UCSD-restricted Web page, your computer will prompt you for your username and password.

9. Enter up to the first eight characters of your username (even if you believe it's longer). Do not include the @ucsd.edu segment of your e-mail address.

10. Enter your password.

11. Click the OK button.

12. To test your proxy settings, click this Test Link. If Firefox is properly configured, it will bring up a 1957 article in Science by Roger Revelle.
