Configuring Mozilla Firefox 3.0 for use with the UCSD Web Proxy

 

  1. Start the Firefox Web browser.
    • Windows: Open the Tools menu and select Options.
    • Macintosh: Open the Firefox menu and select Preferences.
  2. Click on the Advanced icon on the right side of the window.
  3. Click the Network tab.
  4. Click the Settings button in the connection area of the network tab.

 

  1. Click on the Manual proxy configuration radio dial button.

  2. In the text field, type the proxy address and port:

webproxy.ucsd.edu

Port: 3128

  1. Check Use this proxy server for all protocols.
  2. In No Proxy for: add the following (separated by commas, in addition to defaults listed):

meded.ucsd.edu

meded-portal.ucsd.edu

meded-edcom.ucsd.edu

meded-podcast.ucsd.edu
meded-stuexchange.ucsd.edu
(for MS2012 only)

meded-stuexchan.ad.ucsd.edu (for MS2012 only)

meded-mail.ucsd.edu (for MS2009-2011 only)

  1. Click the OK button on the connection settings window. 
  2. Click the OK button on the options window and quit firefox.

 

  1. When you restart Firefox and attempt to load a UCSD-restricted Web page, your computer will prompt you for your username and password.

  2. Enter up to the first eight characters of your username (even if you believe it's longer). Do not include the @ucsd.edu segment of your e-mail address.

  3. Enter your password.

  4. Click the OK button.

  5. To test your proxy settings, click this Test Link. If Firefox is properly configured, it will bring up a 1957 article in Science by Roger Revelle.
