Configuring Opera 5.x(Mac) or 6.x(PC) for use with the UCSD Web Proxy Server
Before you begin:
Please be sure that you are using Opera 6.01. Previous versions of Opera are incompatible with the automatic proxy configuration scripts. You can download the latest version of Opera at http://www.opera.com/download.
- Open Opera.
- From the File pull-down menu select Preferences.
- Select Network on the left-hand side of the window that is displayed.
- Click on the button labeled Proxy servers.

After configuring your web browser using the instructions given above, close and quit your web browser. You may then launch your web browser and access web pages as you normally would.
The first time you attempt to access a UCSD-restricted web site during your web browsing session, your computer will prompt you for your UCSD network username and password:
To test that you have set up your browser correctly, click on this Test Link. When used with a properly configured proxy implementation, this link will bring up a 1957 article in "Science" by Roger Revelle on international cooperation in marine sciences.
