Dealing with Viruses


Windows

  1. For Windows users, download and run the virus removal tool "stinger.exe" External Site / New Window.
    Instructions for use can be found on the McAfee website External Site / New Window.

     

  2. Go to http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com External Site / New Window, click "Scan for updates" in order to install the latest security patches. Install all ""Critical Updates and Service Packs"
    (The number of updates to install will be displayed in parenthesis).

     

  3. Install or update your anti-virus software.

  4. Scan your computer for viruses using your anti-virus software.


Macintosh


 1.  Install or update your anti-virus software.

 2.  Scan your computer for viruses using your anti-virus software.


 3.  Some viruses that are on Windows do not effect Macintosh or other

      DOS-based systems, but this does not mean they are immune!

      Make sure to routinely check your system for any viruses.



*Remember to keep your anti-virus software updated by checking the website frequently.
