MedEd IT: Documentation - Windows Vista Updates



Use your Start menu to check for updates

Windows Update for Vista is now included in Control Panel. In the future, to check for updates (or if this webpage doesn’t open Windows Update automatically):

1. Click the Start button, click All Programs, and then click Windows Update.


2. From the left hand pane, click on Check for updates. You will see a progress bar on the middle of the page as it communicates with the Windows Updates server as it checks for updates. This process could take a sometime depending on how many updates are avaliable. If updates are found, you will see an Update Now or Install Updates button. Click on this button, once updates are installed you may be asked to reboot your computer to apply these updates.

Optional:

You can choose to manage how and when Windows install updates. It is highly recommended to leave the default settings, as they are set to automattically download and install updates. From the Windows Updates screen, click on Change Settings from the left hand pane. The Change Settings window will appear, giving you control to manage Windows updates.
