Use your Start menu to check for updates

Windows Update can be set in Windows XP to download and install automatically in the Control Panel.  It also can be forced manually using this webpage.

To set Automatic Updates follow these steps:

1. Click the Start button, the click Control Panel

2. In the Control Panel, click on Security Center

3. In the Security Center window, click on Automatic Updates, under the "Manage security settings..." section

4. When the Automatic Updates dialouge box appears, select the option "Automatic (recommeded)". Select a convenient time to download updates when your computer will be turned on. Click OK to accept the settings.
