Web Hosting -- Overview

EdCom is now hosting individual or organizational websites for any medical student with a valid account on the Meded-mail server.  These sites will be listed in the Webpage Directory . 


Website Development


Students are responsible for creating their own website.  A variety of tools are available:

For the Mac, iWeb (part of the iLife package) is easy and fun to work with.

For the PC, the editor of choice is Dreamweaver. 

“FREE” template sites are available on the internet and a few examples are listed below.  These sites allow users to download templates create your website at no cost.  See specific site for terms of usage.

EdCom Web Hosting Policies

  1. Sites must be in compliance with the Acceptable Use Policy.
  2. Disk space for the website is limited to 50MB and email will be sent if the quota is exceeded. 
  3. Students must use a compliant SFTP (Secure File Transfer) program. EdCom suggests  FileZilla for the PC or Cyberduck for the Mac.
