Configuring Mozilla Firefox 3.xx for use with the UCSD Web Proxy

 

  1. Start the Firefox Web browser.
    • Windows: Open the Tools menu and select Options.
    • Macintosh: Open the Firefox menu and select Preferences.
  2. Click on the Advanced icon on the right side of the window.
  3. Click the Network tab.
  4. Click the Settings button in the connection area of the network tab.

 

  1. Click on the Automatic proxy configuration radio dial button.

  2. In the text field, type the proxy URL:


  3. http://webproxy.ucsd.edu/proxy.pl


  4. Click the OK button on the connection settings window.
  5. PC Users: Click the OK button on the options window
  6. Close all Firefox windows.

 

  1. When you restart Firefox and attempt to load any UCSD Web page (http://www.ucsd.edu), your computer will prompt you for your UCSD network username and password.

  2. Enter the first eight characters of your username (even if you believe it's longer).

  3. Enter your password.

  4. Click the OK button.

  5. To test your proxy settings, click this Test Link. If Firefox is properly configured, it will bring up a 1957 article in Science by Roger Revelle.
