Configuring Safari 4.xx (Mac) for use with the UCSD Web Proxy Server

 
Getting started

Open Safari From the Safari menu select Preferences. Select the Advanced option Click the Proxies: Change Settings button at the bottom.

In the Configure Proxies, select Use a PAC file from the drop-down menu. In the PAC File URL field, type: http://webproxy.ucsd.edu/proxy.pac Click on the Apply Now button Close and restart Safari Congratulations! You have successfully configured your Web browser for use with the UCSD Web proxy server.

Using the UCSD Web proxy server

After configuring your Web browser using the instructions above, the first time you attempt to access a UCSD-restricted Web site during your Web browsing session, you must enter your Name and Password:

In the Name field, enter your username. Do not add the @ucsd.edu segment of your e-mail address Enter up to the first eight characters if your username is long In the Password field, enter your password. Click the OK button. You may now access all available UCSD- restricted Web sites.

Click on this Test Link to ensure your browser is setup correctly. It will bring up a 1957 article in "Science" by Roger Revelle on international cooperation in marine sciences.
