Configuring Safari 4.xx (Windows) for use with the UCSD Web Proxy Server

 
Getting started

  • Open Safari
  • From the Safari menu select Preferences.
  • Select the Advanced option
  • Click the Proxies: Change Settings button at the bottom.

  • From the Internet Properties window, click on the Connections tab.
  • In the Local Area Network (LAN) settings, click on the LAN settings button.

 

  • In the Automatic configuration section, check the box beside Use automatic configuration script 
  • Type the following in the Address field:

  • http://webproxy.ucsd.edu/proxy.pl


  • Click the OK
  • Close and restart Safari
  • Congratulations! You have successfully configured your Web browser for use with the UCSD Web proxy server.

Using the UCSD Web proxy server

After configuring your Web browser using the instructions above, the first time you attempt to access a UCSD-restricted Web site during your Web browsing session, you must enter your Name and Password:Opens in new window

 

  • In the Name field, enter your username.
    • Do not add the @ucsd.edu segment of your e-mail address
    • Enter up to the first eight characters if your username is long
  • In the Password field, enter your password.
  • Click the Log In button.
  • You may now access all available UCSD- restricted Web sites.

 

Click on this Test Link Opens in new window to ensure your browser is setup correctly. It will bring up a 1957 article in "Science" by Roger Revelle on international cooperation in marine sciences.
