Rotating or Elective Residents

 

For physicians rotating or completing electives at the UCSD Medical Center, please complete the following steps to ensure you are registered properly with UCSD:

  1. Make an appointment. Please call or email Dion Brown Email to make an appointment at least FIVE BUSINESS DAYS prior to the start of your rotation. [Please note: You will not have computer access until the morning after the day of your appointment.]
    • On the day of your appointment, please bring in a copy of your:
      • Medical School diploma
      • Visa (if you are a non-citizen)
      • ECFMG certificate (if you are an international medical school graduate)
      • Travel orders (if you are a Navy Resident)
    • For parking information and directions to the Graduate Medical Education Office, please see our map.
  2. Prior to your appointment, if you prefer to expedite your time at our office, you may complete the following forms:
  3. During your appointment, if you have completed all of the above documents, you will need to sign and date the following forms:
    • Computer Security Form: Initiates access to PCIS.
    • Prescriber Identification Card
  4. Following your appointment, you will need to:
    • Obtain a temporary ID badge: Please bring the security form provided to you during your appointment. For hours, please refer to the Security contact information.
    • Arrange for parking during your rotation.

Returning Rotators

 

Trainees who return for more than one rotation in a given academic year will need to come to the Graduate Medical Education Office at the beginning of each new rotation to complete a new Security Agreement to reactivate their computer access. Please also provide the following information:

  • Dates of rotation
  • Department of rotation

Parking

 

Parking permits are required on University property at all times, 24 hours a day, including Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays. Parking permits and day passes may be obtained from the parking office located in the Arbor Drive Parking Structure.

 

House officers holding B permits from the Medical Center may park in the Bachman facility and in designated areas on the UCSD campus.

 

Parking permits may be obtained from the VA Medical Center at the VA Police Office in the main entrance on the first floor. There is no charge for your parking permit at the VA. You must provide your auto license plate number to receive your permit.

 

Uniforms

The Linen Service is located in the UCSD Medical Center basement. All house officers are eligible to receive lab coats. Uniforms may be left for laundering at the VA Medical Center or UCSD Medical Center.

 

Mail Room

The Medical Center Mail Room is located on Dickinson Street, Building #138. First class, inter-hospital, and inter-campus mail will be delivered to your clinical department at the Medical Center. You must coordinate mail collection with your department for the time you rotate off-site.

 

Second class mail, including journals and bulk rate mail, will not be accepted by the Medical Center and should be delivered to your home address.
