Healing Hearts Across Borders (HHAB)
Healing Hearts Across Borders is a grass roots organization offering health check-ups, medication, clothing, food, and other supplies to the people of the poorest regions of Tijuana, Mexico. Under the guidance of faculty mentor Dr. Dave Rose, who is on the HHAB board of directors, we travel to Tijuana four times annually to set up a free-clinic at two different locations- Colonia Grupo Mexico and Colonia Obrera. HHAB has a full-service mobile laboratory where we can do basic blood, urine, and stool tests, including diabetes screening and pregnancy tests. In addition to providing free medical and dental care, the organization distributes vitamins, food, clothing, toys, and hygiene products to the patients who visit our sites. We see 600 to 700 patients on each weekend trip. Med Scholars are proud to be a part of such a great organization; we have tons of fun helping people, and each trip is a new rewarding experience for all of us.
