Staff Email Overview

EdCom coordinates your email account set-up with the Academic Computing & Media Services (ACMS) Office - who maintains the Exchange Server that acts as your "post office" for your UCSD mail account.  Both incoming and outgoing messages are saved on the server, so this can be handy when accessing files while at school or studying away from home.

UCSD provides two strategies by which to access your mail:

  1. WebMail Opens in new window, a convenient web interface is the most convenient strategy when outside the office.
  2. Client package Opens in new window installed on your computer (Microsoft Outlook). We highly recommend using Outlook 2010 (PC) or Outlook 2011 (MAC) to fully take advantage of the capabilities of the Exchange server. Make sure you have the latest updates for Microsoft Office. Opens in new window

EdCom will work with you to ensure all installations and configurations are optimally set for your situation. Contact EdCom if you have issues or questions.

Email Policies Regarding SOM Students

Email is the normal means of communication among the School of Medicine's students, faculty, and administration. Students are accountable for information in email messages that have been sent to them by UCSD faculty and staff. It is therefore expected that every student will check his or her email regularly and frequently - daily is highly recommended when courses are in session, but at least every 48 hours (unless on vacation). It is recognized that students who are off-campus at very remote locations may not have reliable internet access, but they are encouraged to take advantage of any opportunities they may have to access email.

Email Policies Regarding SOM Faculty & Staff

University Policy has restricted faculty and staff from forwarding thier UCSD email to another non-UCSD email address.
Email use is subject to University of California regulations, described on the Email Policies Opens in new window page of the UCSD Blink website.
