"I want to make a couple of important points: When doing the initial workup on a patient with asthma it is important to get pulmonary function tests. This will help you determine the extent of disease. A chest radiograph might be helpful if you need to exclude other diagnoses but it is not a routine test. Allergy testing is not routinely done. It can be useful in patients with asthma which is refractory to treatment. Lab tests like CBCs and chemistries are not routinely done on asthma patients."
