"I want to make a couple of important points:
- When doing the initial workup on a patient with asthma it is
important to get pulmonary function tests. This will help you determine
the extent of disease.
- A chest radiograph might be helpful if you need to exclude other diagnoses but it is not a routine test.
- Allergy testing is not routinely done. It can be useful in patients with asthma which is refractory to treatment.
- Lab tests like CBCs and chemistries are not routinely done on asthma patients."
