No immediate treatment and observe patient: Incorrect

Although approximately 60% of patients with acute cholecystectomy will resolve spontaneously, once the patient has presented several hours after the onset of an acute attack, some form of initial treatment is usually necessary. Many of these patients are dehydrated due to vomiting. The prompt administration of IV antibiotics may also decrease the chance of developing complications of cholecystitis such as suppurative cholecystitis.

Mrs. Jones has an episode of acute cholecystitis. She has now had the RUQ pain for over six hours and has a moderate fever and leukocytosis. Simply observing her without any treatment may lead to worsening of her condition.
