Oral
Enteral-Tube Feeds-Replete, Ensure.
Total Parental Nutrition

Is patient tolerating the feeds?


1. Vomiting- obstructive symptoms, aspiration risk?
2. Diarrhea - overfeeding can cause steatosis.
     Diarrhea can lead to dehydration.
3. Melena, hematochezia.
4. Constipation-Last time your patient had BM.

Pex: Patient's weight.
Temporal wasting. Edema from protein loss.
Adequacy of gastric tube, nasogastric tube placement
Chemistries: Prealbumin, albumin
     Glucose
     Na+, K+,


Problems seen frequently:
  • Vomiting
  • Diarrhea
  • Constipation
  • GI bleed
  • Peptic Ulcer Disease
  • Hepatic Encephalopathy
  • TPN induced cholecystitis.
