Core Topics in Biomedical Sciences (SOMI 220)

Eligibility and Cost:

The Core Topics course is available to all students accepted into UCSD School of Medicine (SOM) or School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences (SPPS) by June 15; students from educationally diverse backgrounds are particularly encouraged to apply (e.g., students who have have majors outside of the biological sciences or who have been away from full-time study for a year or more). The Core Topics course can ease the transition into the intense first-year SOM basic sciences curriculum for these and any other students who wish to strengthen their background in the basic biomedical sciences (SPPS students are encouraged to attend prior to their second-year).

Class size is limited. If more than 35 qualified students apply, preference will be given to students with majors outside of the biological sciences and to students who have not been enrolled in full-time study for a year or more.

Students admitted to the Core Topics course are charged a small registration fee. They are also responsible for their own housing, board, and other expenses. Information regarding housing options will be mailed with the acceptance into the Core Topics (SOMI 220) course.

For questions regarding the Core Topics course please contact Carrie Owen (858-534-1519; cnowen@ucsd.edu).
