Core Topics in Biomedical Sciences (SOMI 220)

Schedule:

Classes are held each weekday morning from 8 a.m. until 12:30 p.m, with occasional sessions in the early afternoon. During morning sessions, Core Topics instructors present advanced concepts related directly to the first-year curriculum, including topics in physiology, immunology, and molecular biology (see sample schedule and learning objectives).   Concepts are presented predominantly through lectures but also via active learning through case studies, problem-solving sessions, and presentation of patients by clinical faculty. Afternoon sessions are devoted to exam review, orientations, and seminars reinforcing active study strategies and time management. In addition, the course faculty are available for discussion and review in office hours outside of scheduled class time. The instructors assess student learning both informally through the use of an electronic classroom response system and with multiple-choice examinations administered approximately once each week.
