Clinical Skills Assessment Programs

At the Center, students participate in two milestone clinical skills assessment programs which incorporate standardized patients, the Objective Structured Clinical Exam (OSCE) in year two and the Clinical Practice Exam (CPX) at the beginning of the fourth year.

  • The OSCE assesses the skills learned in the Introduction to Clinical Medicine course.
  • During the CPX, students meet with eight standardized patients and are assessed on their ability to establish a relationship of trust, take a focused medical history, perform an appropriate physical examination and educate the patients about their own care. Students must pass the CPX in order to graduate.
