Family Medicine Interest Group Mission Statement
Mentorship Program
This program allows FMIG members to interact directly with physicians, residents, senior medical students, and pre-med students to share family medicine experiences. If you are interested in experiencing family medicine first hand, or mentoring a student interested in family medicine, feel free to contact us for details.
FMIG Sponsored Discussions
Come join the FMIG throughout the year to listen to expert speakers in topics ranging from the diversity of family medicine practices, residency panels, workshops, study strategies for the pre-clinical years, American Sign Language in medicine, and more. Check the calendar for upcoming events!
Partners and Families in Medicine
This group is specifically designed for partners and family members of medical students. We know the road in medical school can be equally difficult for family members of medical students. Join us for social events throughout the year where you can share your feelings, thoughts, and experiences with other partners and family members of medical students. Global Health
FMIG provides opportunities to listen to leaders in the field of global health, as teaming with the Latino Medical Student Association on their Border Health Project.
Underserved Medicine
Attending UCSD gives medical students the unique opportunity to begin practicing underserved clinical medicine right away at the UCSD Student-Run Free Clinics. The mission of the UCSD Family Medicine Interest Group is to introduce students to the opportunities and philosophies of Family Medicine. Through various academic settings we explore the wide range of professional options available to family physicians, as well as opportunities to interact with UCSD faculty members and Family Physicians throughout San Diego.
