At higher power, the internal elastic lamina marks the interface between the tunica intima and tunica media, while the external elastic lamina denotes the interface between the tunica media and the tunica adventitia.  Note the nerve to the right of the inset box.  In the inset, the tunica intima is shown and, though not readily visible, endothelial cells rest on top of the internal elastic membrane in contact with the contents of the vascular lumen.
