Higher-power views of the mucosa over Peyer’s patches sometimes show M cells. These epithelial cells are flattened in contrast to the typical simple columnar epithelium of the digestive tract. A region with M cells is seen overlying a lymphocytic infiltrate at the bottom of this image. Look for the stretch of epithelium that lacks goblet cells. |
