In this high-power view of intestinal glands or crypts of Lieberkuhn, profiles of these tubular glands can be seen above the eosinophilic band of the muscularis mucosae at lower right.  Along with absorptive and goblet cells, the crypts contain Paneth cells.  Paneth cells contain bacteriolytic lysozyme in granules that stain intensely red in good preparations.
