Class of 2017 Debt Management Session
Dear Class of 2017,
On February 14th, the Health Sciences Financial Aid Office (HSFAO) will hold a session on educational debt management and loan repayment for the graduating class. The featured speaker for this session will be Julie Fresne, Director, Student Financial Services, Association of American Medical Colleges.
Attendance at this session is required for graduation for all members of the Class of 2017 who have received educational loans during medical school. (If you have not received student loans during medical school, please disregard this notice.)
This participatory session will be held from 1:30 - 3:30 p.m. on February 14thin the Lower Auditorium of the Medical Education and Telemedicine (MET) Building on campus.
The following specific issues regarding educational debt management and loan repayment will be addressed during the session:
- Grace, deferment and forbearance periods during residency for all loans
- Various repayment options including standard, extended, graduated and income-based repayment plans
- Loan consolidation (what loans can be consolidated, what should determine whether or not you consolidate, when is the best time to consolidate)
- The cast of characters (servicers, holders, etc.)
- Loan forgiveness
