Carolyn J. Kelly, M.D.

Associate Dean for Admissions and Student Affairs

UCSD School of Medicine

 

Dr. Kelly joined the Division of Medical Education as Associate Dean for Admissions and Student Affairs in October 2004.  She earned her A.B. in Biochemistry at Brown University and her M.D. at the University of Chicago, Pritzker School of Medicine. Dr. Kelly completed residency training in Internal Medicine, and subspecialty fellowship training in Nephrology, at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.  From 1987-1992, she was an Assistant Professor of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania, overseeing an NIH-funded laboratory focused on the immunopathogenesis of autoimmune renal disease, and engaged in preclinical and clinical teaching.  In 1992, she was recruited to the UCSD School of Medicine and the VA San Diego Healthcare System as an Associate Professor of Medicine, becoming a full Professor in 1997.  From 1992-2004, she continued her basic research in renal immunology and immune regulation, with funding support through the VA and the NIH.  In 2001, Dr. Kelly was selected to serve as the Associate Chief of Staff for Research at the VASDHS, overseeing all basic and clinical research activities for VASDHS based investigators.  She served in this capacity until joining the Division of Medical Education as Associate Dean.

As the Associate Dean for Admissions and Student Affairs, Dr. Kelly oversees the offices of Admissions and Student Affairs, Financial Aid, and the Medical Scholars program.
