Visiting Residents

Elective Rotators

Elective Rotations are accepted at the discreation of the individual training programs.  Physicians training in a domestic ACGME accredited program interested in a rotation with UC San Diego Health need to contact the program directly in which they would like to rotate. The Credentials Verification page in this website contains contact information for UC San Diego Health training programs .

Non-Elective Rotators

Physicians from Balboa Naval Base and Scripps (Green or Mercy) rotating at UC San Diego Health, please complete the following steps to ensure you are registered properly for your rotation:

1.  Make an appointment. Please call or email Ann Zultner Email to make an appointment at least TEN BUSINESS DAYS prior to the start of your rotation. [Please note: You will not have computer access until the first day of your rotation.]

  • On the day of your appointment, please bring in a copy of your:
    • Medical School diploma
    • Visa (if you are a non-citizen)
    • ECFMG certificate (if you are an international medical school graduate)
    • Travel orders (if you are an active Military Resident)
  • For parking information and directions to the Graduate Medical Education Office, please see our map.

2.  Prior to your appointment, please complete the following forms 10 business days prior to the start of your rotation:

3.  During your appointment

  • You will electronically sign the Computer Security and Use Statement
  • Receive information necessary to access the computer and clinical applications
  • Obtain a temporary ID badge: Please bring the security form provided to you during your appointment. For hours, please refer to the Security contact information.
  • Arrange for parking during your rotation.

4.  Upon Completion of your Rotation

  • You are responible to returning your badge to security.  Failure to comply will result in a fee to have a badge reissued for subsequent rotations.

Returning Rotators

Trainees who return for more than one rotation in a given academic year will need to come to the Graduate Medical Education Office at the beginning of each new rotation to complete a new Security Agreement to reactivate their computer access. Please also provide the following information:

  • Dates of rotation
  • Department of rotation


Parking permits are required on University property at all times, 24 hours a day, including Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays. Parking permits and day passes may be obtained from the parking office located in the Arbor Drive Parking Structure.

House officers holding B permits from the Medical Center may park in the Bachman facility and in designated areas on the UCSD campus.

Parking permits may be obtained from the VA Medical Center at the VA Police Office in the main entrance on the first floor. There is no charge for your parking permit at the VA. You must provide your auto license plate number to receive your permit.
