How can I get my questions answered?
(For a specific course, look under "Support" for the appropriate quarter)
How can I get a "quick" question answered?

1) Open hours:

April, Steve, Paul, and Nora hold regularly scheduled open hours in their offices (1208 BSB) each week to answer quick questions in their respective areas of expertise; the schedules are posted on the bulletin board in OESS and on the Q&A/Announcements Forum for each core course.

2) By e-mail:

April, Steve, Paul, and Nora will respond to brief questions sent via e-mail to aapperson@ucsd.edu, sschneid@ucsd.edu, pkingsto@ucsd.edu, and nlaiken@ucsd.edu.

3) During lecture breaks:

April, Steve, Paul, and Nora usually attend lectures related to their areas of expertise and can be asked questions during the breaks between lectures.

How can I make a private appointment for more assistance?

You may make appointments by e-mail, telephone or in person with:

1) By e-mail:

Please include four times that you can be available and that do not fall during:

  • Scheduled core course lectures, conferences, or labs
  • OESS open hours for that staff member
The staff member will reply by e-mail with the first listed appointment time during which he/she is available.

2) By telephone:

If the staff member doesn't answer, please leave a voice mail with your telephone number and four times that you can be available – again avoiding the conflicts listed for appointments by e-mail. The staff member will reply by telephone or e-mail with the first appointment time available.

3) In person:

  • If the door is open or the staff member is alone in his/her office, feel free to knock and ask for an appointment.
  • If students are in the office (open hours or private appointments), please wait until the last five minutes or first five minutes of an hour to knock. Or you may send an e-mail (see above).
  • Staff members usually attend lectures related to their areas of expertise, so a convenient time to ask about setting up an appointment is before or after lecture
