Visiting Senior Students
UC San Diego School of Medicine welcomes eligible senior visiting students' participation in our senior electives as space permits. We work closely with visiting students to optimize educational opportunities for students in the final stages of their medical school training. This site is designed to provide you with in-depth information regarding eligibility requirements and clinical opportunities. We look forward to your presence at UCSD.
- Clinical elective experiences for senior medical students must be coordinated through the Visiting Student Program. Please do not contact faculty or administrative staff directly to attempt to arrange clinical experiences.
- The Visiting Student Program does not offer observerships or research electives, nor are required/core clerkships offered to visiting students.
- Admission into the Visiting Student Program does not constitute admission or matriculation into UCSD School of Medicine.
- Any expenses required for disability accommodation of a visiting student must be borne by the student's home institution. Please refer to UCSD's technical standards.
Our program currently accepts applications as follows (Please be aware that not all departments and electives are accepting applications from visiting students):
Students from North American (US, Canada, Puerto Rico) medical schools and osteopathic schools
Students who attend U.S. LCME-accredited medical schools and U.S. COCA-accredited osteopathic schools should visit the AAMC's Visiting Student Application Service (VSAS) for complete information about our program, including the application process, electives offered, and dates available. Be sure to read the Institution Information page under the Institution tab for school-specific details and requirements. (Students who attend LCME-accredited medical schools that do not use VSAS should contact our office at email@example.com for a paper application but should still use the VSAS website for information on elective courses and dates.)
Students from medical schools outside of North AmericaThe Visiting Student Program is no longer able to accommodate requests of students from international medical schools (including off-shore medical schools) to participate in our program. Note: international students who have been accepted into our program for the remainder of our 2016-17 academic year (1/2/2017 - 4/23/2017) are not affected and may proceed with their elective(s) as assigned.
