At high-magnification, cellular details of two adjacent villi are evident. Note the goblet cells interspersed throughout the simple columnar absorptive epithelium. Microvilli (too small to be seen by light microscopy) are at the apical border of the absorptive cells and serve to further amplify surface area for absorption. |
