Rady's Rounds and Tour

An amazing annual opportunity to round with the residents of Rady's, followed by a tour at Rady's. This is one of  few chances to be able to see what it is really like to be a pediatrician in a hospital setting. Inpatient pediatrics is a field that many students do not have exposure to until landing on the wards during third year!

Pediatrics Subspecialty Panel

Learn about pediatrics subspecialties and pediatric subspecialty fellowships from a lunch panel with all of the residents and fellows, where questions about day-to-day work and lifestyle can be answered. Hear why everyone chose their specialties and see where your personalities and interests may lie.

 

Winter Quarter

Pediatrics Winter Mixer

A happy hour event involving the Pediatrics fellowship directors, fellows, and residents, as well as attendings and medical students, at a local restuarant near campus. This is a great opportunity to network, find research opportunities, and get to know the Pediatrics faculty in a fun, informal setting!

 

Spring Quarter

MS4 match panel 

Hear from recent matchees to pediatrics residencies all over the country, and get advice about what to do and what not to do from MS4s who have just experienced their clinical years. This smaller panel provides a comfortable space for first year medical students to ask questions directly and allows fourth years to impart their hard-earned wisdom!

 

 

All year round

Rady's Hospital

• Grand Rounds: occurs every Friday from 8:30-9:30 am at Rady Children's Hospital- Education & Office Building room 1900A  - 2019-2020 Pediatric Grand Rounds Schedule
• Volunteering opportunities such as Caroling during the Holidays with AAP and Turner Family Day with the Endocrinology department

American Academy of Pediatrics

• AAP national conference (this year is in New Orleans (https://aapexperience.org/future-dates/) but will be returning to San Diego in 2020!)
• Continuing education (interact with pediatricians and residents while learning the latest of clinical pediatrics)
• Annual Picnic
• Reach out and Read Volunteering

Sharp Hospital

• NICU Volunteer Baby Cuddler Program - 1 year commitment (100 hours) with a background check and cuddler specific training (https://www.sharp.com/hospitals/mary-birch/volunteers.cfm)

 

Research Opportunities 

• IDSA's Foundation Medical Scholars Program - funded research opportunity to medical students with demonstrated interest in gaining mentored experience in the field of Infectious Disease
